THAT GOOD NIGHT (M)
SATURDAY at 12 Midday Complimentary High Tea with scones, jam & cream, sandwiches, mini meat pies, Twinings Tea, filter coffee, sherry.
In his final leading role, the late John Hurt (two-time Academy Award nominee for The Elephant Man and Alien) plays an ageing British writer facing what he wryly dubs “the ultimate deadline”. His prickly personality means he has no intention of going “gentle into that good night”. He is determined to reconcile with his son (Max Brown, The Tudors) and not become a burden to his wife (Sofia Helin, The Bridge).
“Irresistibly moving.” – Hollywood Reporter“A must-see simply because it features the very last lead performance by the truly great Sir John Hurt.” – Screen Daily
CROOKED HOUSE (PG)
SATURDAY at 3pm Complimentary Movie Treats: Small Chips & Chocolate

This period piece is a visual treat featuring stylish direction and a deliciously wicked ensemble cast including Glenn Close, Max Irons, Terrence Stamp, Christina Hendricks and Gillian Anderson.
“More than satisfies, it thrills.” – Los Angeles Times“Sumptuous. Hugely enjoyable.” – The Telegraph“Keeps you guessing, right up to its shocking conclusion (of which Christie was especially proud, naming it a personal favourite among her extensive oeuvre).” – Variety
THE BOOKSHOP (PG)
SATURDAY at 7.30pm Includes dessert, cheese plate, coffee & port
Free-spirited widow Florence Green (Emily Mortimer) risks everything to open a bookshop in a conservative English coastal town. Also stars Bill Nighy and Patricia Clarkson.

Actor Simon Baker (TV’s The Mentalist) directs, co-writes and stars in this Aussie surf drama based on Tim Winton’s best-selling novel set in mid-‘70s coastal Western Australia.“A sublime adaptation of Tim Winton’s novel. Simon Baker’s debut feature is a knockout! It’s just beautiful.” – Margaret Pomeranz

Nicola Bolton – The Garden Palette
Many artists have a deeply rooted connection to their environment and draw inspiration from patterns in nature. Nicola Bolton’s The Garden Paletteexplores the artist’s strong affinity for the gardens surrounding her late Victorian era home in Bolwarra as well as her interaction with gardens whilst traveling in the UK and Europe.
Photography is integral to Nicola’s artistic practice, which has its foundations in the detailed interrogation of natural environments and depiction of the Australian landscape. In this series, Nicola uses the technique of over-painting to blend notions of the photographic and the painterly. These images inhabit the space between traditional botanical illustrations and contemporary photographic documentation.
By encouraging the viewer to question the medium they see, the images invite consideration, contemplation and investigation of the image to see each flower or plant for its stunning singularity; the beauty of colour, texture and pattern.
28 July – 14 October 2018
Open House: 3rd Tamworth Textile Triennial
Open House: 3rd Tamworth Textile Triennial celebrates the open-ended, porous nature of textiles practice today. It introduces a group of artists who have not previously exhibited in the triennial.
All are linked in some way to a sense of broader engagement with things outside of themselves and their studios. Many celebrate the process of belonging that comes from working with other artists, while others take on wide-ranging issues such as the landscape and the environment and the artist’s place in a world beset by environmental, social and cultural upheaval.
Bringing it all together is a kind of openness that comes through exhibiting, talking and creating which can involve both artist and viewer as equal participants. The making process is equally as important as the works themselves, and the conversations while creating and showing create an open house where all ideas and responses are welcome.
A Tamworth Regional Gallery touring exhibition.

THE GHOSTS OF NOTHING - IN MEMORY OF JOHNNY B. GOODE
OPENING 5.30PM SATURDAY 7 JULY 2018
7 JULY - 19 AUGUST 2018
Join us for the opening of THE GHOSTS OF NOTHING - IN MEMORY OF JOHNNY B. GOODE, an ambitious project developed over a four-year period that combines visual art, music and performance.
Blurring the lines between the real and the imagined the project has created a dark, tragicomic fictional world with Johnny B. Goode as its star. The exhibition takes its curatorial cue as that of a “rock tour” retrospective museum exhibition presenting video documentation of the project's "world tour" performances as well as artifacts and memorabilia.
At 6.30PM SHARP, the grand finale performance "Johnny's Departure" will take place in The Yard featuring Zackari Watt and Laura Purcell, bringing the work to its epic conclusion.
Produced and curated by The Ghosts of Nothing (aka Sean Lowry and Ilmar Taimre) with artistic collaborators including Lee Devaney, Charles Famous, Coleman Grehan, Lyndall Johnston, Frank J. Miles, Laura Purcell, Mark Titmarsh, Zoë Tuffin and Zackari Watt.

The Merewether Fats’ Blues Jam
First Thursday | 7pm | Free Admission
The Merewether Fats’ Blues Jam has been running on the first Thursday of each month for over 10 years. The night is a celebration of Blues, roots and folk musical styles.
Founded by Mark ‘Merewether Fats’ Salter the blues jam has become a hub for the music community, young, young at heart, musicians of all levels and most importantly music fans. It’s strictly blues music and Fats had very stringent guidelines on what blues is. The main condition is that it came from the soul of the player.
The night usually kicks off at 7:30pm with an introductory set from Fat’s house band to set the tone. From there it’s open to all for about 3 songs at a time. We try to cultivate a wide variety of artists to play acoustic and delta styles, Chicago shuffles, Detroit boogies, Bo Diddley rhythms and it just gets deeper.
Jammers can play solo, duo or as an ensemble. They can borrow the house band and however, there’s plenty of great players to to pick up a band on the night. Singers, harmonica players, keyboardists, drummers, bass players, guitar players… even banjo players. We get first time performers and seasoned veterans, sometimes on stage at the same time sharing a passion for blues.
Mark ‘Merewether Fats’ Salter passed away in 2016 and the community will continue to champion this part of his legacy in classic blues brothers style. To make sure it’s accessible to future generations and get people hooked on the rhythm of the human condition. As Fats would always say ‘…blues is sad music that makes you feel good.’ By the way, no pedals, bring your instrument and a lead (tuner helps). Amps and kit on stage, say g’day to the guys in the house band on the night to get your name on the run sheet.”

BEN HARPER & CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE
Sydney Opera House - Concert Hall, Sydney, NSW
Sun 22 Jul 2018, 07:30 PM
Details: Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite
Grammy-Award winning, multi-platinum-selling artists BEN HARPER and CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE are bringing their second joint album “No Mercy in This Land” to stages across Australia this July, announcing headline shows in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra and Sydney.
These shows follow their announcement as headliners at the now sold-out 2018 Splendour in the Grass Festival in Byron Bay.
Touring as a five piece line up, Ben and Charlie are continuing their 5 year-old collaboration, releasing their first new music together since the 2013 release of their collaborative album “Get Up!,” which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Blues Albums Chart, winning a Grammy Award in 2014 for “Best Blues Album.” A musical expression of the kinship between the two, the album recounts both Ben and Charlie’s personal stories and adds to the sonic history of American struggle and survival.
“Charlie Musselwhite is that very rare and hallowed place where blues past, present and future collide,” says Ben. “He transforms notes into emotions that feel both hauntingly familiar and brand new, as if hearing them for the first time every time. He is a living legend whose harmonica playing should be beamed into outer space to search for other life forms.”
“On stage or in the studio - working with Ben Harper holds the same excitement I experienced working with Chicago blues legends back in the day,” says Charlie. “I think it is safe to say that Ben has reinvented the Blues in a great way: playing modern while preserving the feel. I am honoured and privileged to be a participant in this project.”
At first glance, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite might seem an unlikely pairing. While Ben grew up in in the tree lined Southern California college town of Claremont, a bastion of culture and liberalism just east of Los Angeles, Charlie was raised in Memphis during the time of rockabilly and Sun Records. But while the two might have come to their musical knowledge in different eras and places, each of them possesses an enduring hunger for musical knowledge that came to them early.
The great Willie Dixon called blues, “the facts of life expressed through words and song.” “No Mercy In This Land” is that kind of record. It’s the sound of pain and perseverance, it’s a meditative church and a roaring fuzzed out celebration. Experience two unimaginably talented musicians as Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite hit the road this July across Australia.
The White Album Concert
28 & 29 July
It’s one of the most successful Beatles events ever staged in Australia. After two sold-out tours in 2009 and 2014, Chris Cheney (The Living End), Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon), Tim Rogers (You Am I), and ARIA Award-winning solo artist Josh Pyke are reuniting for a 2018 tour in a nod to the 50thanniversary of this very special album.
Few records echo down through the years like the White Album.
Coming after India, but before the split, the White Album was the sound of John, Paul, George and Ringo throwing everything they’d learned into their musical blender. This major work bursts with variety, creativity, experimentation, and the genius of The Beatles during one of their most intense, fertile periods. One of the 10 greatest albums of all time according to Rolling Stone it’s 30 songs veer from the populist stomp of Back in the U.S.S.R and the mind-bending Happiness is a Warm Gun to the melodious sorrow of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, the ska pop fun of Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, and the hard rock prototype Helter Skelter.
Chris, Josh, Phil & Tim are backed by a 17-piece rock orchestra including guitars, strings, horns and two drummers with musical direction by Rex Goh.
The White Album songs will be performed in track order, starting with Back in the USSR and closing with Good Night. And for those in the know – yes, that includes Revolution 9.
Two performances on Sat 28 July and Sunday 29 July
Standard tickets from $89.00 | $8.50 Booking fee applies per transaction

Grammy winning legendary guitarist for Emmylou Harris and Eric Clapton returns for first Australian shows this decade.
Headline shows across the country plus appearances at Adelaide Guitar Festival, Melbourne Guitar Show, Sydney Guitar Festival and Gympie Muster.
“He’s the greatest guitarist in the world. The ultimate virtuoso. His skill is extraordinary, his ear is extraordinary, and he’s gifted on just about every level.” - Eric Clapton
If you tagged along when the blues dragged Rock n Roll into a honky-tonk and started doing shots… you’d be just about primed to witness the extraordinary rollicking prowess of god’s favourite guitarist – Albert Lee.
Albert Lee is one of the absolute greatest guitarists in both rock and country music history. Included on Albert’s CV are performances and recordings with Keith Urban, Tommy Emmanuel, Dave Edmunds, Willie Nelson, Bill Wyman, Carlene Carter, Jackson Browne, Rosanne Cash, Bert Jansch, Herbie Mann, Keith Richards and Dolly Parton.
With a live show that kicks off with a blistering rendition of Fat’s Domino’s “I’m Ready” and makes joyous pit stops for classic tunes by Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Hoyt Axton, Buddy Holly, Jimmy Webb and Ray Charles you can be assured of a sensational night of fabulous music as Albert and his crack L.A. band provide a masterclass in guitar picking rockabilly country via a living history of rock and roll.
"Albert Lee is my hero. It'll be a very, very long time before there is a guitarist to match Albert's ability." - Dave Edmunds
Inspired by Elvis’s guitarist Scotty Moore, British born Lee first displayed his awesome chops trading licks with the likes of Jimmy Page and sharing stages with Deep Purple, Humble Pieand Grand Funk Railroad as part of the fabulous Byrds/ Flying Burrito Bros inspired Heads Hands & Feet, before departing his homeland for the USA where he recorded three albums as a member of The Crickets, and then joined Joe Cocker at his peak. In 1976 Albert become part of Emmylou Harris’s Hot Band alongside Ricky Skaggs and Rodney Crowell.
In 1978 Albert commenced a five-year stint with Eric Clapton and in 1983 encouraged the Everly Brothers to get back together, acted as their musical director and went on to play regularly with them over the next twenty years.
In 2002 the man known as Mr. Telecaster shared the stage with Paul McCartney at the Concert For George and won a Grammy Award in the same year for a performance with bluegrass icon Earl Scruggs. Albert appeared at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2007, 2010 and 2013.
It’s been nearly a decade since Albert Lee last brought his beloved Ernie Ball Music Manguitar to Australia but he’s making up for it in 2018 with shows across the country including appearances at the Adelaide Guitar Festival, The Melbourne Guitar Show, the Sydney Guitar Festival and the Gympie Muster.
Don’t be the one that hears it from a friend how fabulous the show was once it’s all too late.
As Emmylou Harris said: "When Saint Peter asks me to chronicle my time down here on earth, I’ll be able to say (with pride if that’s allowed) that for a while I played rhythm guitar in a band with Albert Lee.”

KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD IN CONCERT:\
Guitar god Kenny Wayne Shepherd is one of the fiercest young axmen of his generation, and he continues to blow audiences away every time he takes the stage. The self-taught virtuoso is a sight to behold in concert, where his furious fingers and flailing blonde locks serve as the perfect counterpoint to the precision and ease of his razor-sharp riffs. Whether he's playing bluesy originals from 2014's Goin' Home or covering legends like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, Shepherd always treats fans to electrifying performances that are as heavy on pure gusto as they are on musical chops.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Shreveport, Louisiana-born Kenny Wayne Shepherd got his first guitar in early childhood and began learning the instrument with a unique self-taught method. He was quickly recognized as a guitar prodigy, and at age 13 he was invited to play on stage with blues icon Bryan Lee. His first performance at the Red River Revel Arts Festival in Shreveport attracted the eye of label execs, and before long Shepherd had signed a multiple record deal with Giant Records. His 1995 debut album Leadbetter Heights topped the blues chart, a feat he repeated with five subsequent albums including his 1997 sophomore album Trouble Is... -- the longest-running album on the Billboard Blues Chart in history. In 2014 Shepherd released his seventh studio album Goin' Home, another chart-topper that has fans eagerly awaiting his next must-see series of tour dates.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"I have seen Kenny Wayne numerous times and this was his best show yet. See him if you can!"
"Awesome show!!! Would definitely pay to see them again! He punished that guitar!"
"Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band rocked the blues. What great musicians. His closing act of Jimmy Hendrix's 'Voodoo Child' was awesome."
