Dexter Moore - Mystery Person album launch and live show at Lizottes on Feb 3rd was impressive both in artform and live band. The light and visual show would have been at home on any bigger stage venues and to see this presentation at Lizottes proves what a great venue this is and its versatility to present a great visual experience. Dexter put together a band that were as invested in the feel and mission as he was. The vocal harmonies with Dexter were outstanding and the strength of Dex's voice on the night meant he delivered a full rock fusion funk and progressive show.

The songs were strong. Well written, incredible arrangements, interesting and catchy. There were traces of the influences over his musical life and yet it was Dexter's personal expression style and feel that was so impressive. If I attempt to describe it I would try to say that Dexter has managed to be uniquely different like Steely Dan, with feel good groove like Santana, intelligent rock like Muse, strong harmonies like CSN and musically artistic like Jack White and probably a little bit of Bowie flare. I only reference to attempt to describe that Dexter has created a futuristic new sound while its strength generates from what we know to be the right kinda stuff.

Dexter introduced young Dominique as his support act and also backup vocals and she certainly impressed. A really sincere voice and it seemed to just get better with every song she offered up. She presented her originals which I hope I can find on a recording and I also hope that her live feel can be captured on a recording because she was giving her all. She finished on a blues number that proved she had the range. When I hear clearly outstanding singer songwriters like Dominique who can stand alone on a stage and hold an entire room with a voice and a guitar I can only be amazed.
The album 'Mystery Person' is Dexter's 8th project and is a collection of original songs and having travelled the passage of 3 years of production into this personal perspective of contact and communication. Recorded to multi-track tape , mixed by Grammy Award Winning engineer John Hudson and cut to vinyl at Abbey Road Studios. The album was then pressed to vinyl at Optimal in Germany, available on CD also. Described as a Soul Funk Rock fusion of songs that are given an 80's feel. At the same time there is something profoundly timeless ....
