"One of the most delightful films of the year. Every character is wonderfully realized, every performance is spectacular. You’ll laugh all the way through, you’ll cry by the end, and you’ll see the brilliance of Laurel & Hardy come back to life via the very same cinematic magic that made them legends in the first place." IGN International

Wolfmother confirmed to headline a HUGE 2019 Scene & Heard Festival
After a massive 2018, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Scene & Heard couldn’t get any bigger, right?
Well, you’d be wrong because the lineup for the 2019 festival, which kicks off at Wickham Park on Sunday 10 November, has dropped overnight and it’s a doozy!
Leading the charge this year are Aussie heavy rockers Wolfmother who are fresh from a massive Splendour In The Grass gig and an international tour.
Amazing hitmaker Alex Lloyd will also be marking a milestone at this year’s festival – the 20th anniversary of his platinum-selling debut album Black The Sun – a record Alex will perform in full on the Scene & Heard stage.
The treats just keep coming, too with the 2019 bill rounded out by rockers Eskimo Joe and Even, crowd favourites Sneaky SoundSystem and the glorious indie power pop of Jebediah and Magic Dirt.
Wow!
To put the icing on the cake, Newcastle will also host the “Don’t Come Monday Stage” – a party zone designed to evoke only the best memories of the boiler room.
Championed this year by The Potbelleez DJ’s, the stage will feature Andy Murphy and John Course.
Scene & Heard is more than a festival. It’s about creating a connection to a time. A time before people cared about ‘likes’, and festival moments weren’t Instagram opportunities but collective memories.
Those wanting to create new memories and relive the old ones can head here to register for the pre-sale.
Members pre-sale begins Tuesday 11 June from 9am.
General public tickets are on sale Wednesday 12 June from 9am

The US live shows and recording trip really was a musical identity search and pilgrimage of epic proportions! With a musical spectrum reaching over Soul and Pop, Blues and Rock - the band travelled from LA to NY finding legends to collaborate and record with, developing their talents & abilities, and making their wildest music-making dreams come true.
Originally formed by Lizzie, (with Deniz Tek) ARIA Hall of Famer and legendary guitarist Murray Cook joining Lizzie at the helm in 2015. The group has evolved over the years, with the line-up now including original bass player Andy Newman with well-known drummers Stu Wilson, Calvin Welsch and Glenn Abbott joining the magical keys-man Marko Simec for a national album release in 2019.

LEE COULTER & DIXIE MAXWELL
Tickets: ga $16.85
When you start something new, you don’t expect success at first attempt. But when unsigned singer-songwriters Lee Coulter & Dixie Maxwell teamed up for the first time, their single “We You Me” shot to the top of the itunes singles chart in Australia and New Zealand.
It was no accident. “Overnight success” doesn’t apply when there are decades of paying dues between the two of them. As two seasoned singer songwriters - Coulter originally from Brisbane, Australia and Maxwell from San Diego, CA (with a year stint in the Nashville scene) - they have quietly honed their crafts in the background of cafes, bars and restaurants across the USA.
On his own, Coulter and his soulful folk songs were deemed the “discovery of 2011” by Sirius XM’s Coffee House channel. He's opened for iconic artists such as Tom Jones and the late Chuck Berry, and shared the stage with Jason Mraz. Martin Sexton, who John Mayer calls “one of the most treasured singer-songwriters I've ever heard in my life,” even stated that “the world needs more Lee Coulter songs.”
On her own, Maxwell, with her vulnerable songwriting and distinctly soft yet magnetic delivery, wins you over from the very first note by empowering her audience to listen to their own inner voice as she explores themes of hope, longing and freedom. She has had songs placed in major motion pictures and opened for artists such as Andy Grammar.
Together, their sound is exponential. It’s like modern indie-folk meets a classic movie. Encouraged by this fact, the success of their first single and a Kickstarter that reached their goal in just 2 days, they have now teamed up for a full duo album as “Lee Coulter & Dixie Maxwell,” to be released in late May this year, and will be touring Australia to play both solo and duo sets for their new fans down under.

A LAZY SUNDAY JAZZ & BLUES LUNCH with Ray Beadle and his Band
Ray Beadle is a regular on the Australian blues festival circuit and has played at premier venues such as The Basement in Sydney, and The Empire Hotel in Annandale where Ray and The Vipers have been a resident band every Thursday night.
Winner of the Sydney Blues Society 2007 Performer of the Year Competition.
This talented young performer has been invited to play with the likes of Renee Geyer, The Foreday Riders, The Hippos and Whose Muddy Shoes? He incorporates his own style of jump/blues with many popular swing tunes. Ray Beadle and the Vipers were filmed by Foxtel as part of the Live at the Basement Series.
His tours of the USA have been very successful and he has played in venues such as B.B Kings Club in Memphis and Buddy Guys Blues Club in Chicago as well as several southern blues festivals. While in America, Ray recorded with Mark Sallings and had the privilege of being asked to play with American greats such as Andy Just, Dave Bowen and Chris Cain, who had this to say, Ray is unquestionably one of the finest musicians I have come across His song writing has a harmonic and emotional depth that many strive for but few capture. Rays guitar works well, lets just say this cat is VERY dangerous.
Ray Beadle's career as a guitarist started when he was just 9. He released his first solo CD "Movin' On" in 1998, a CD with the infamous King Brothers (trio format) in 2000 and "The Good Life" in 2001 with his band, the Vipers.

Lunch with Van The Man A Tribute to Van Morrison
"VAN THE MAN" had its roots in the highly successful Sydney wine bar circuit of the 1970's. "Hogan & The Becketts" (the backbone of Van the Man) played all the hits through the 80's and 90's, with Van Morrison being one of the favourites. In 1999 "Van the Man" was formed and started its career with a bang, being invited to perform at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. According to Richard Jinman of "The Age" ..."sound right....oh yes! Van the Man do the business. Hogan has Van's jazzy vocal phrasing and gruff Irish burr down pat. Hit or miss? Absolute HIT! "
"Van the Man" has gone on to perform for State of Origin fixtures, Bledisloe Cup Finals, last year sold out one of Sydney's premier live music venues, The Basement and had a great pre-Christmas show at the Blue Beat Live Club at Double Bay as well as a sell-out show on New Year's Eve at the highly acclaimed international musicians venue of The Clarendon Guesthouse in Katoomba. With exclusive appearances for the Packer family at their country retreat Ellerston, seven highly acclaimed tours of New Zealand and a recent triumphant performance at Norway's Music Festival in Kjollefjord, "Van the Man" is a must see for all Van Morrison fans, both young and old.

Lazy Sunday Lunch Whispering Jack Show ..A Tribute to The Music of John Farnham
FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER - IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR - Joining Mike on stage will be Amy and Jesse Vee - It has been however 15 years ago that the whole concept of the show was put together, so Mike is on a journey around Australia to celebrate his show! His uncanny resemblance, the tone of his voice and his outgoing nature are so much like the real thing that people often ask him ‘Are you related?’- a comment that is humbling to Mike, but at the same time recognition and credit to his own performance..

Bravo Victor
June 11th, 8pm
Comprising of Bassist Jonathon Burgess and vocalist Sophie Aked. Both musicians have a very different approach to writing and listing to music, which stems from their different musical backgrounds; Jono’s in Jazz and Sophie’s in Classical and pop music.
Bravo Victor’s sound could be described as a ‘melting pot’ of these genre’s harmonic language and performance practices. Through their strengths and passions, Sophie’s for poetry and melody and Jono’s for the intricate inner workings of harmony, complex and striking original music has been created."
Sophie Aked – Voice
Jonathon Burgess - Bass
Kate Wadey
June 18th, 8pm
Kate Wadey is quickly becoming a voice in Australian jazz to be reckoned with. Her 2nd upcoming album Moon Songs is the perfect example to Kate’s effortless charm and sophistication that so many jazz fans are becoming familiar.
Warmly embraced by a band of excellent and celebrated accompanying musicians, Wadey sings standards selected for their particularly fine character with a sweet, sure and rich voice. Without fuss or bravado but with pure assurance, she navigates the emotions and melody with equal skill; a brilliant young artist displaying a level of craft beyond her years, and producing fine, characterful and swinging jazz fare for the ears.

A HUGE EXHIBITION OF CHINA'S TERRACOTTA WARRIORS IS COMING TO THE NGV
It's one of two immersive exhibitions focusing on ancient and modern Chinese art heading to the Victorian gallery next winter.
Back in 1982, Melbourne played host to one of China's most important ancient artworks: a collection of statues known as The Terracotta Army. Crafted between 221–206 BCE and first discovered in the Shaanxi province in 1974, it made its international debut at the National Gallery of Victoria — and now, 37 years later, it's returning for the NGV's 2019 Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series.
Dubbed Terracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality, the five-month exhibition will feature eight warrior figures and two life-size horses from The Terracotta Army, alongside two half-size replica bronze chariots that are each drawn by four horses. They were created during the reign of China's first emperor Qin Shi Huang and were buried near his tomb more than 2200 years ago. The pieces coming to Melbourne only represent a fraction of the entire work, which numbers more than 8000 figures in total.
If you're wondering how big of a deal the statues are, the answer is very. The Terracotta Army is considered one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th century and has also been described as the 'Eighth' Wonder of the World. Displaying at the NGV from May 24 to October 13, 2019, the selected pieces will be accompanied by more than 150 other ancient Chinese treasures sourced from museums and Shaanxi archaeological sites. Expect to rove your eyes over priceless gold, jade and bronze artefacts that date back more than 3000 years, charting China's artistry across the country's formative period.
Looking to the present as well as the past, the NGV's winter season will also celebrate acclaimed Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang. His work is no stranger to Australia — in 2014, Brisbane's Gallery of Modern Art hosted its own showcase — however, his Melbourne exhibition will feature all new pieces. With Cai known for his large-scale installations, The Transient Landscapewill include 10,000 porcelain birds suspended in a spiral formation, in an artwork that links to The Terracotta Army. Specifically, it'll create a 3D version of a calligraphic drawing that depicts Mount Li, which is where Qin Shi Huang and his terracotta warriors were buried.
Another of Cai's new works will feature a porcelain sculpture of peonies placed in the middle of a 360-degree gunpowder, with his entire show taking inspiration from Chinese culture and philosophy. The world-renowned talent will also help design Terracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality, making the two concurrent exhibitions as immersive as possible.
'Terracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality' and 'Cai Guo-Qiang: The Transient Landscape' will exhibit as part of the NGV International's Melbourne Winter Masterpieces presentation, running from May 24 to October 13, 2019. For further details or to buy tickets, visit the NGV website.

The one and only Herbie Hancock brings his band to the Concert Hall for a performance not to be missed, playing his legendary, genre-defying catalogue of jazz, funk, electro and more. Find out more.
An evening with one of music’s true icons
In an event not to be missed, the legendary Herbie Hancock performs in the Concert Hall for one night only, drawing upon his innovative, massively influential six decade career of jazz, fusion, funk, electro, hip-hop and beyond.
Few artists exert as much influence over the modern music landscape as Hancock. The Chicago-born, 14 time Grammy-winner’s illustrious career transcends both genre and era, from Blue Note Records prodigy and key member of the Miles Davis Quintet – which redefined the shape of contemporary jazz – to his ’70s smash jazz-funk crossover with the Headhunters, and as a true pioneer and originator of electro that made him a hero of successive generations.
Among Hancock’s innumerable contributions: his ’60s hits “Watermelon Man” and “Cantaloupe Island”, classic Blue Note albumsMaiden Voyage and Speak Like A Child, playing on Miles Davis’s pioneering In a Silent Way, 1973’s funk gem Head Hunters, the ’80s electro smash “Rockit”, his Oscar-winning score for Round Midnight and soundtrack to Michelangelo Antonioni’s Blow-up, and his 2007 record River: The Joni Letters, awarded the Grammy for Album of the Year. And in 2011, Hancock was designated a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. Experience the musical legend who has collaborated with everyone from Chick Corea and Wayne Shorter to Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell and Kendrick Lamar.

THE DUO
Neve and Nobel began their creative musical journey together during production of Jef’s 2017 album, “Spirit Control”. A subsequent request to perform as a duo for a private function was more than enough to seal the duo deal.
June 2019 sees the duo performing in Melbourne, Canberra (Bungendore), Newcastle, Sydney and Brisbane.
The duo-project presents a mix of compositions by themselves, as well as some cool jazz standards, alternated with stories and chats by those two funny and verbally strong gentlemen. They never stop to challenge and tease each other on stage, so much fun to watch and listen to!
