The Urban Chiefs
Friday 22 September 2017 | 7pm | Free Entry
The Urban Chiefs are a Psyche – Blues – Stoner – Rock band from Tamworth NSW. Blake Saban (Guitars & Vox) and Glendon Finlay (Drumcussion) have been changing people’s perspective of what a ‘band’ should look and sound like since 2009. The pairs huge sound is due to Blakes’ unique set up of playing his array of custom guitars through two guitar amps, a bass amp and an acoustic DI signal. Combine this with his powerhouse gravelly vocal stylings and Glendons’ tribal and at times frantic, percussive drum style and you have an Australian two piece like no other. There is so much happening on stage that often people are mistaken in thinking that the guys are using samples or pre-recorded material but everything you hear is being produced by the Chiefs as it happens!
“…a cracking slab of Psyche-Blues!”

Fiona Boyes Band - $15 + Booking Fee
Thu 28 September
Country – Fiona Boyes, an Australian blues guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, has been recording and performing for more than 25 years, building a career that has taken her to major festivals and stages around the world. A veteran recording artist with 13 releases, Australia’s first lady of the Blues has been honoured with 7 USA Blues Music Award nominations in 5 different categories over the years, including 2 nominations in the 2016 USA Blues Music Awards – ‘Acoustic Artist of the Year’ and ‘Acoustic Album of the Year’ – for her latest release ‘Professin’ the Blues’. She’s also received more than 30 Australian music awards, spanning the blues, folk, jazz and Americana scenes. Fiona’s immersion in the wide musical and historical traditions that make up the Blues and her deep love of the art-form itself lends conviction and authenticity to her playing and song writing.
Fiona began her career as a Blues artist when she won an Australian made Maton guitar in a local coffee shop talent show. During the early years she honed her skills with all female band, The Mojos, who went on to become one of Australia’s premier blues acts, with 5 recordings to their credit. In 2000 Fiona released her debut solo recording, which won Australian Blues Album, Female Artist, and Song of the Year awards. Her international career took off in 2003 when she won the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, the first woman and first non-American to be so honoured. Since then she has released numerous award winning albums and maintained a busy international touring schedule.
Equally at home on acoustic or electric guitars, her repertoire is like a Blues travelogue. Listen to her play and you’ll hear pre-war Delta slide, wailing laments, single chord Mississippi Hills grooves, intricate and beautiful finger picking, rollicking New Orleans barrelhouse, greasy Memphis soul, driving classic Chicago sounds, the country stylings of Texas Swing, and the uptown sounds of the West Coast. On her latest release – ‘Professin’ the Blues’ – Fiona digs deep into her love of acoustic blues guitar and songwriting: the roots of the Blues. As her friend and mentor, the late, great Hubert Sumlin said. ‘She’s got it! I’ve played with all of them – and she’s got it!’
Constantly touring, Fiona divides her time between Australia, Nth America and Europe. Her home-away-from-home is Portland, Oregon, as she follows the festival seasons in both hemispheres. When she is back in Australia, Fiona lives on the Clarence River in northern NSW, with her husband Steve (aka The Preacher), a social activist and Anglican priest, and between them they share the joys of five children and eight grandchildren.
Mi-Sex
Friday 29 September 2017 | Doors 7pm $40 Presale
Holding an important place in the heart of Australian and New Zealand music, Mi-Sex are remembered as true pioneers in the down-under new-wave scene, transforming the turntables of Australia and New Zealand as music grew up into the 80s. And now they are back with some new games—reformatted, rebooted and retooled with a little extra RAM. Formed in New Zealand in 1977 around the trio of Don Martin, Kevin Stanton and the late great Steve Gilpin, the group pioneered the introduction of electronic instruments into the rock genre, heading across the ditch to Australia with a string of seminal hits including ‘People’, ‘Blue Day’ and of course the unstoppable ‘Computer Games’. This international hit single preceded the glut of similar-sounding British chart entrants by a year or more and became one of the defining pop-rock songs of the Australasian music-scape. It ascended to #1 on the Australian charts during November ’79 and hit the top five in New Zealand.
By April 1980 Computer Games had charted in more than 20 countries, and had peaked inside the top ten in Canada, France, Austria, Italy, West Germany and South Africa. Recipients of seven Countdown Awards, two top ten albums and global success, Mi-Sex had an intense six-year career before calling it a day in 1985, moving on to other projects. After the tragic passing of Gilpin in 1992, the band members became close once more, eventually re-forming on stage in 2011 to fundraise for the Christchurch Earthquake appeal before getting together more permanently to hit the road once more. With the enigmatic Steve Balbi (Noiseworks, Electric Hippies) recruited to fill Gilpin’s sizeable frontman shoes, the band hit a new stride, combining the energy and spirit of their original line up with a new musical direction and purpose, writing again for the first time since the 80s and starting on the road to reclaim their place in the Australian & New Zealand music zeitgeist. They recently released their first album in over 30 years, Not From Here, in September 2016. The Mi-Sex lineup is made up of the enigmatic Steve Balbi on lead vocals and Travis New on guitar; alongside original Mi-Sex members Don Martin, Murray Burns, Paul Dunningham and Colin Bayley.

Method
Friday 6 October 2017 | 7pm | Free Entry
Method will be bringing their alt country stylings and rootsy acoustic grooves back to The Stag and Hunter on Friday the 6th of October.
Featuring Bill Jacobi (Shane Howard, Floyd Vincent) on stringed instruments and vocals and Frank Corby (Bondi Cigars, Chris Wilson) on drums, percussion, and vocals, these evergreens are equal parts bush honesty and pop sensibility.
Together they make music that is an eclectic amalgamation of swamp/roots, alternative country and hillbilly funk; that somehow manages to look back at a wealth of musical tradition, have a good poke around and then turn it into something both original, contemporary and quintessentially Australian.

Cass Eager – Ain’t No Stopping Me
Friday 27 October 2017 | Doors 7pm $15 + BF Presale
Cass Eager has a brand new beat and she’s hitting the road with her band this October to send new single ‘Ain’t No Stopping Me’ off into the world.
Strange Daddy produced the new track which is somewhat of a stylistic departure from Cass’ previous work. Lyrically, it’s a testament to her resolve, and sonically it has a vintage Motown charm that hints at an Amy Winehouse swagger but sounds like she’d be more at home drinking tequila with Elle King. As always, Cass has got “more soul than heaven on a busy day”. (Brag)
She plays with her band, or alone, and while both are different magnificent beasts, one thing is constant – her voice. It carries like the wind and slams you right in your gut where you want it to. She could ‘sing the phone book to you and you wouldn’t get bored’, says Diesel.
She also loves a good story and a good laugh, and her shows are just as much about heartwarming and entertaining tales as they are about the music.
Some artists take a hiatus to write, some to travel, and others to reignite their creative inspiration. Cass Eager has done something a little more pragmatic with her recent years, and the result is two small children, Hank and Lois. But she’s back – better than ever – and ready to tell the world to step aside with her new single.

Chris Jagger
Sunday 5 November 2017 | 7pm | $23.50 Presale
Chris Jagger obviously comes from rock royalty. Watching his old brother Mick ascend with his band The Rolling Stones, Chris was soon turned onto music as well. He and Charlie Hart first met when Charlie was playing with psychedelic band 117 in Cambridge in the 1960’s and have remained friends ever since.
Together they have written many songs for a series of albums the pick of which will be released on BMG, available now as a download and as a physical release Sept. 1st 2017. The pair offer a great show, combining Charlie’s mastery of various instruments, including piano, accordion and fiddle, playing both their own tunes and some covers from Clifton Chenier to Professor Longhair as well as Cajun fiddle tunes.
They have toured across Europe, the USA and Australia over the years and are still going strong. Chris has written and recorded over 100 tunes from his first LP on Asylum records in the 1970’s. Charlie has worked with Ronnie Lane, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison and Roger Daltrey amongst others.
Willie and The Bandits
Thursday 9th November 2017 | Doors 7pm $12 + BF presale, $15 door
With their fresh approach to blues rock music, Wille and the Bandits have been assertively carving a place for themselves in Europe’s music scene, developing a reputation as one of the best live acts around and capturing the imagination and interest of music lovers right across the globe.
The band was listed in the top ten must see bands at Glastonbury 2014 by BBC Radio 1 and was personally invited to perform on the German TV show Rockpalast; a musical institution of global import.
Essentially, Wille and the Bandits is a classic blues rock three piece, much in the vein of Cream or The Jimi Hendrix Experience and like these bands is pushing at the boundaries of their genre. Wille and the Bandits take their sound way beyond what is expected of such a traditional lineup.
The band combines three talented and committed musicians who come from very different musical backgrounds. Wille’s exquisite slide guitar playing and powerful vocals are given perfect momentum with Andy’s innovative drumming, while virtuoso Matt, with his 6 string bass and double bass, adds a class and polish rarely seen in a Rock act. The great musicianship with infectious songs has inspired praise from Rock legends such as Ian Paice, Joe Bonamassa and Francis Rossi.
Throughout a performance the band can be seen playing a range of instruments, sometimes simultaneously, sometimes switching between various guitars, basses, and percussion within the same song, giving the audience a complete performance which has seen the popularity of Wille and the Bandits grow at an exceptional rate.

Guy Sebastian has hit the Australian airwaves again with his brand new single ‘High On Me’, out today through Sony Music Entertainment Australia. Written with Fiona Bevan (Ed Sheeran) and produced with Louis Schoorl and M-Phazes, ‘High On Me’ gives another tantalising taste of what’s to come from Sebastian’s forthcoming 10th studio album, CONSCIOUS, set for release on Friday October 27th, 2017. CONSCIOUS will be available to pre order from Friday September 8th.
Guy Sebastian has spent over a decade on the road, which has challenged him to maintain a healthy work / life balance and fuelled his conscious decision to spend more time at home over the last 12 months. Despite the huge task of writing and producing his 10th studio album, which in itself requires so much of his focus and energy, Guy decided that it was time to plant his feet and become grounded, even just for a moment.
Guy set himself goals. Mental, spiritual and physical goals. He pushed himself to the limit physically and mentally, forcing the realisation that he has never had a clearer outlook on life than he has right now. It has definitely been an awakening period for Guy and with that has come an invigorated positivity, which was the inspiration for the upbeat new single ‘High On Me’.
“I feel like I’ve had so many ah-ha moments this last year,” explains Guy. “One of the biggest is that every now and again everybody just needs a reason to let go, smile and dance. ‘High On Me’ came about while I was in Bali on a writing trip, surrounded by mountains and yoga enthusiasts who like me seemed high on life at the time! I really wanted to create a soulful earworm that would make young and old want to get up out of their chair and enjoy the moment.”
Stemming from a desire to release something fun and positive out, with a new appreciation for the age-old philosophy that what you put out into the universe comes back to you, ‘High On Me’ is that bit of fun we all need in our day. With its funky soul vibes that encourage a smirk and a groove, ‘High On Me’ is bound to make people smile.
To celebrate the release of his new album, Guy will be hitting the road this coming November on his CONSCIOUS TOUR with special guest, Matt Gresham.

Hitting Australian shores with his Absolute Monster Gentlemen for the first time since his 2016 Grammy Award win for new album ‘GoGo Juice’, Jon Cleary hasofficially announced the Australian leg of his World Tour for this November.
A hot ticket on Australian shores where he has sold out everywhere from Sydney's Opera House (Legends of New Orleans tour) to The Corner Hotel and tornup festival stages across the country from Bluesfest and WOMADelaide to Wangaratta Jazz, this is a Grammy Award winning album tour not to be missed.
A respected peer of such New Orleans R&B icons as Dr. John and the late Allen Toussaint (who wrote most of the horn arrangements for GoGo Juice) JonCleary came to international fame through his work in the bands of Taj Mahal, John Scofield, Dr. John and Bonnie Raitt, with Raitt unabashedly dubbing him"the ninth wonder of the world."
The Album
Working alongside Grammy Award-winning producer John Porter (Elvis Costello, Carlos Santana, B. B. King) Cleary says "Funk is the ethnic folk music of NewOrleans, and I wanted to infuse 'GoGo Juice' with a sound that was true to the city I love."
Thoroughly steeped in the classic New Orleans keyboard canon - from Jelly Roll Morton to Fats Domino to Art Neville, James Booker, and beyond - Cleary usesthat century's worth of pianistic brilliance as a point of departure to forge his own unique and eclectic style. As heard in the widely varied grooves and texturesof GoGo Juice, Cleary's sound incorporates such far-flung influences as '70s soul, gospel music, funk, Afro-Caribbean (and especially Afro-Cuban) rhythms andmore. "I love New Orleans R&B, " Cleary explains. "I'm a student of it - and a fan, first and foremost. But there's little point in just going back and re-recordingthe old songs - although on my live solo shows, especially in New Orleans, I make a point of trying to keep the fast- disappearing tradition of the R&Bpianist/singer alive by playing the old songs that are in danger of being forgotten. As for recording, however, I think the greatest New Orleans R&B records arethe ones that built on what went before but also added something new. By writing new songs you get to channel all the music you absorb through your ownindividual set of filters - and the fun is in seeing what emerges."
The Man
Born in Kent, England to a musical family, Jon Cleary epitomizes the fanaticism and inherent single mindedness of a musician who decides that he simplywasn't born where he was supposed to be. Like Dylan to New York, infatuated with the music of New Orleans throughout his entire childhood, as soon as hewas old enough to leave school, Cleary took off for the Crescent City. When his flight touched down he had the taxi take him straight to the Maple Leaf, a funkyuptown bar which then featured such New Orleans piano legends as Roosevelt Sykes and James Booker. 35 years and 8 albums later - he's now a defining partof New Orleans musical heritage.
