Artist performs ‘Alchemy’ to create new exhibition
The title of textile artist Sue Hotchkis’ new exhibition, Alchemy, perfectly captures the magical art of transformation she has mastered to create the mysterious and evocative works. The exhibition opens at Timeless Textiles in Newcastle this month.
Alchemy is defined as ‘a seemingly magical process of transformation creation or combination’. Hotchkis says this perfectly describes what she does.
“I create by transforming and combining elements, within the textile medium,” she said.
Alchemy runs from 20 October to 21 November, with opening night on Thursday 31 October.

Colin Lillie  Sunday, 20 October 2019 5:30 pm

Colin Lillie is one of a kind - this you discover within moments of hearing the “Gypsy Scotsman” and proud adopted Territorian share his song.
-“With his debut record, Lillie has reached within himself and brought forth something truly special; a glass house is one thing, open for the world to see, but a Glass Home is another entirely.”-The Guardian 4/5 stars.
-“A compelling debut album, packed with vocal power, poetry, passion and palpable honesty”-The Australian 4.5/5 stars With continual performances around the country Lillie has managed to prove himself as one of the Northern Territories and Australia's best performers winning himself the first ever National Live Music Award NT.

Geoff Achison  Thursday, 24 October 2019 7:00 pm

Geoff began his apprenticeship with legendary Australian bluesman 'Dutch' Tilders establishing himself as a fine lead guitarist before striking out with his own. He released his debut album in the early 90s and began touring throughout the USA, UK & Europe.  Geoff's music has been compared favourably to major artists such as Eric Clapton, JJ Cale and the Allman Brothers Band having a solid foundation in the blues whilst embracing a variety of music styles. He has won awards for his guitar playing, songwriting and live performances and was honoured in 2011 as official Patron Of the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society.

Tori Forsyth  Friday, 25 October 2019 7:00 PM

At just 24 and with numerous ARIA and APRA accolades under her belt, Tori Forsyth is back a year after releasing her debut album with blistering new single “Be Here”.
Actions speak louder than words is the potent message behind the song, in which Forsyth is worn down by the empty promises of an addicted lover.

Hailing from Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley, Forsyth has always been surrounded by eclectic sounds, from Fleetwood Mac to Elvis to ‘70s rock to Madonna. This richly varied musical upbringing has resulted in an artist who’s hard to categorise -- not that she’d want you to put her in a box. “As a creative, that freedom to move in and out of phases and for people to embrace them for what they are, I think that’s really important,” she says.
“Be Here” is the sound of a thrilling young talent spreading her wings.

Vincent and The Temple Dogs Saturday, 26 October 2019 7:00 PM

Floyd Vincent and the Temple Dogs are one of the countries most enduring and unique bands.
They play a high - energy blend of rock, world and pop.  They have toured Australia regularly since the early 90's and have also toured Europe 5 times being one of the few Australian acts to release a CD on a major label in countries across Eastern Europe.
The music is eclectic and releases have been supported by rotation airplay on JJJ, ABC and similar government broadcasters in Europe.
They are currently promoting an exciting live album called “A Little Saturday Night Music”
This will be their second show at the Stag and anyone who spotted them in Newcastle recently can testify that the band is cookin’.

Fiona Boyes  Sunday, 27 October 2019 6:00 pm

Fiona Boyes is a distinctive guitarist, vocalist and songwriter who plays deep Blues, influenced by a myriad of traditional regional styles. She’s carved out an international reputation performing at acoustic, guitar, jazz and blues festivals, clubs and cultural centres in 16 different countries.   Last year, Fiona received her 6th & 7th nominations in the USA Blues Music Awards (the only Australian blues musician to ever be nominated in these prestigious honours) and won  USA Blues Blast Music Award 2017 ‘Acoustic Album of the Year’ for her album ‘Professin’ the Blues’.

Gretta Ziller  Thursday, 31 October 2019 7:00 pm
Gretta started out her career as an Opera singer and Bagpipe Teacher, her vocal style has changed somewhat since then she does on the odd occasion incorporate bagpipes into her set ... after all, there aren’t many folks that can sing AND play Long Way to the Top !!
But Gretta isn’t just a one trick pony, If you’ve been foolish enough to nail down the sound of acclaimed songwriter Gretta Ziller, then prepare to have the rug pulled out from under you. Queen of Boomtown, her stunning debut record, defies categorisation and demands repeated listens.

Lead singer of "Moving Pictures", Alex Smith will tour East Coast live-music venues in October 2019, performing his new album "The Thread" & celebrating the songs & artists that shaped his youth. It's a long time since the intensity of the early 1980’s, but the passion for singing & performance has never left him.  As the younger brother of talented Blues Guitarist, Gypsy Dave Smith, Alex grew up listening to the music of artists like Muddy Waters & Brownie McGhee filtering through his bedroom wall.  That deep connection with the rhythms & power of the blues, morphed on to form the backbone of his musical tastes and performance style

A Word from the Organiser - Get a 5% off code to come and see the "REAL THING"(s) @ Girrakool Blues 2020!!! (Code Below). Our fan's that have been with us from the beginning know how much I love the blues - so much so I told most bands to do extra songs during Saturday night at last years event, making our timetable run well over schedule, and well past midnight (OOPS).
While you guys got a great value for money, I got in trouble from my wife - (DA regulations or something like that).... but gee I can't help it !!!
This is not the last announcement - There are more bands to be announced again soon!!!
Thanks (and gratitude) for your ongoing support - Cheers Blueza
P.S. Did you come to Girrakool launch party last year at the Florida Beach Bar, Terrigal?  It was such a great day - and we are going to do it all over again NOVEMBER 23 - thanks again to the Florida Beach Bar!!  A little taster for Girrakool, and best of all it's free!!

Wolfmother confirmed to headline a HUGE 2019 Scene & Heard Festival
After a massive 2018, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Scene & Heard couldn’t get any bigger, right?
Well, you’d be wrong because the lineup for the 2019 festival, which kicks off at Wickham Park on Sunday 10 November, has dropped overnight and it’s a doozy!
Leading the charge this year are Aussie heavy rockers Wolfmother who are fresh from a massive Splendour In The Grass gig and an international tour.
Amazing hitmaker Alex Lloyd will also be marking a milestone at this year’s festival – the 20th anniversary of his platinum-selling debut album Black The Sun – a record Alex will perform in full on the Scene & Heard stage.
The treats just keep coming, too with the 2019 bill rounded out by rockers Eskimo Joe and Even, crowd favourites Sneaky Sound System and the glorious indie power pop of Jebediah and Magic Dirt.
Wow!
To put the icing on the cake, Newcastle will also host the “Don’t Come Monday Stage” – a party zone designed to evoke only the best memories of the boiler room.
Championed this year by The Potbelleez DJ’s, the stage will feature Andy Murphy and John Course.
Scene & Heard is more than a festival. It’s about creating a connection to a time. A time before people cared about ‘likes’, and festival moments weren’t Instagram opportunities but collective memories.
Those wanting to create new memories and relive the old ones can head here to register for the pre-sale.
Members pre-sale begins Tuesday 11 June from 9am.
