JETS PLAY JETS BIO:
It all started JETS PLAY JETS is a band formed by Grant Walmsley and Richie Lara reunited for the first time in 26 years to commemorate the 30-year anniversary of them founding the Screaming Jets.
To celebrate this milestone, the pair have formed JETS PLAY JETS, with two of Newcastle’s most respected musicians, frontman Justin Ngariki and bassist Paul Coxon round out the lineup. No strangers to the stage Ngariki and Coxon have shared the stage with the likes of silverchair, The Cult, Whitesnake, Rose Tattoo and former AC/DC vocalist Dave Evans.
JETS PLAY JETS play all the hits from the Jets’ first two internationally acclaimed albums, debut All For One, the sophomore classic Tear of Thought, as well as the iconic EP Living In England. Aussie Rock Anthems such as the ARIA chart smash hits Better, along with C’mon, Shivers, Helping Hand, Living in England, FRC, Blue Sashes, Tunnel, Starting Out and Stop the World all deliver the classic and unmistakable twin guitar assault of Walmsley and Lara.
These guys led an international charge off the back of their debut smash album, taking on the United States and Europe, touring endlessly and sharing stages with the likes of KISS, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Ugly Kid Joe, Faith No More, and many more.
Fans have said that “this combination alone is synonymous with the original Jets sound”.
“This is the way those songs are supposed to be played!”
“This is the way those songs are supposed to be played!”
Grant Walmsley declares “It may have been 26 years since we played together but the instant we started, it was a lightning strike right back to our glory days. We haven’t lost a thing”.

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH WHAT YOU LOVE
Often people seem apprehensive about choosing an artwork to put in their home. They worry that they wont have chosen the 'right' colour or style. I always advise people to forget about 'fashion' or the colour of the curtains, forget who is the 'most accomplished' artist - choose what makes you catch your breath, pleases your soul or fascinates you enough that you to want to continue to have a daily conversation with the artwork. If you are true to your own ideas of beauty the objects you acquire to surround yourself will echo your personality and give you pleasure long after fashions change.
I am fortunate to be surrounded by objects and artwork of great beauty and interest each day I am in Finite Gallery. It gives me great pleasure to share these with visitors, and even more pleasure when someone selects something to enhance their own life. It is all part of the joy of sharing creativity.
Thank you to the artists who entrust me with their work, and to the many visitors who continue to express their pleasure with what they find at Finite Gallery.
Hope to see you soon.
Happy creating!
Leslie

Birds on a city rooftop inspire artist
Ordinary birds visiting an inner-city rooftop garden were the inspiration for a fascinating exhibition by artist Cecily Grace, which opens at Newcastle’s Timeless Textiles gallery in August.
The Waiting Bird and other Rooftop Visitors exhibition showcases Grace’s three life-long loves: birdlife, printing and photography, through the medium of textiles. This happy convergence has opened up an exciting new direction for the artist that builds on her lifetime of experience with fibre arts.
The works in the exhibition celebrate the 18 varieties of birds that have regularly visited Grace’s rooftop garden. This vibrant life is complimented by the beautiful backdrop of old and intricately-designed building facades, which feature in her city block. Grace was also inspired by a line of very old Cook and Norfolk Island pines which border the buildings. It has created the perfect backdrop for the daily dramas Grace has captured on camera.
“These birds act out their rituals, their wars, their survival,” she explains. “They fascinate with their movements, with the shapes created by their wings and feet, and their fierce, intense gazes. There was no looking for inspiration. The inspiration arrived and demanded to be documented.”
With her artistic practices limited by small apartment living, Grace evolved a simple process that has enabled her to produce creative work. She took photographs on a Canon Eos camera with various telephoto lenses. The images were digitally manipulated and printed on muslin or lawn with an inkjet printer. The resulting images have then been minimally stitched to enhance the dramatic lines and features of the bird itself or the movement of the bird.
The Waiting Bird and other Rooftop Visitors shows at Timeless Textiles Gallery in Hunter Street, Newcastle between 7 August and 1 September. The opening is from 6-8pm on Thursday, 8thAugust.

Erasure is never simply a matter of making things disappear: there is always a remainder that comes about in the aftermath, some mark on the surface from which a word or image or note has been removed. Whether crossed out, written-over or rubbed away, the forsaken item has a habit of returning, like a spectre: if only in the marks that assume its place and assert its passing.
Please join us for the follow up event and performances

During the 1960s, a growing number of artists and writers in different locations around the world and largely unaware of one another, adopted the process of erasure and effacement. In New York, Doris Cross started painting over dictionary pages; Tom Phillips in London began to partially obliterate pages from an obscure Victorian novel; the Austrian concrete poet, Gerhard Rühm used India ink to largely obliterate a newspaper and in Belgium in 1968, Marcel Broodthaers crossed out selected words in a painting that resembled
a blackboard.
a blackboard.
Erasure was just one of a number of methods used by Conceptual artists in the 1960s, and was frequently employed to break with tradition and instigate new forms of art making that appeared to be detached from the artist's own hand. But perhaps the most famous artwork featuring the act of erasure is Robert Rauchenberg's work, 'Erased De Kooning Drawing', 1953. Since then, many artists have reprised Rauschenberg's influential act of erasure, imbuing it with different meanings, created primarily through the question of what is being erased, as well as the circumstances under which such a cancellation is performed. Erasure is an exhibition of four women artists who have used and continue to integrate this strategy in
their work.
their work.

Nathan Cavaleri
Tickets: GA $23.50
Nathan Cavaleri
Much of the country was oblivious to the career Nathan Cavaleri led beyond prime-time Australia. By age 12, he found himself the centre of a bidding war between the labels of Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna. By age 16 he'd toured with B.B. King as his guest, and played at the Kennedy Centre in front of The Clintons with Etta James and Bonnie Raitt.
In 2010, Nathan's battle with insomnia and anxiety was witnesses by thousands when he blacked out on a festival stage. Struggling to regain his confidence and drive he stepped away from his art with the expectation of never returning. Whilst the performing came to a halt, his song writing developed a far deeper level of expression with a diverse range of influences. This love of music offered him a similar type of therapy it had when he battled leukaemia as a child. Motivated by his passion to play and write, he stared down the fear of live performance and determined that it was time to make a record.
His upcoming EP 'Demons' stretches beyond the traditional rock, blues and roots that Cavaleri is known for. The release of the first single 'Demons' marked his 6 year rise above mental health challenges and return to the stage. 'Rising Sun' is a track in which he pays tribute to the man that landed him his first record deal and tour at age 10, Jimmy Barnes, and is an emotive step from the profoundly beautiful title track.
This will be Nathan’s first solo release since he was signed to Michael Jackson’s label in 1994 and features songs that are a culmination of the diverse life Nathan has lived. B.B.King calling Nathan “the future of blues” is definitely an appropriate quote for how he has expanded beyond his roots.
“This time around, I wanted to express more than blues would allow. Each track throughout the writing and production process conformed to no specific genre and called upon an array of my favourite artists from J.J.Cale and B.B. King to Bowie, Lana Del Ray, and Mos Def.”
Cavaleri returns after playing sell out gigs up and down the East Coast in 2018, seeing him connect intimately with new and lifetime fans through both story and song. From how his love for music deepened during his battle with leukaemia as a kid, to a hilarious encounter with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and Robert Plant after playing to sixty thousand people in Zurich after Elton John. However, it's how he brings his experiences and songs into the present that gives audiences more than a shot of nostalgia.

Bowie Unzipped featuring Jeff Duff
Friday, 16 August 2019
January of 2019 will mark three years since the world lost one of its most influential and best loved musicians in David Bowie. In that period of time there have been numerous tribute concerts, both big and small and a worldwide recognition of the wonderful legacy that Bowie left behind.
In 2017, during the October Long Weekend, the tiny NSW outback town of Carinda hosted their annual 'Let’s Dance' festival, paying tribute to David Bowie and drawing fans from all over the country. Headlined by Jeff’s Duff’s Bowie Unzipped, the festival demonstrated the dedication of Bowie fans in this country, many whom had traveled thousands of miles to attend the eve

Woodstock 19 50th Anniversary
Friday, 23 August 2019
Woodstock '19: https://youtu.be/naYck7yfrcA 50 years ago, half a million people gathered in a muddy field in New York State to celebrate Peace, Love and Rock and Roll. 2019 is the 50th anniversary of the Mother of all Music Events and Access All Eras is celebrating by staging Woodstock ’19. Bringing together the cream of Sydney’s musos and singers, this Tribute to Woodstock will celebrate the high noon of these times – the anti-establishment, anti-war, peace-campaigning Sixties. You’ll experience the rambling solos and heart-wrenching emotion in classic songs from artists including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Jefferson Airplane, Canned Heat, The Band, Joe Cocker and more. ‘Woodstock ‘19’ features a blistering rock band fronted by Damien Lovelock (Celibate Rifles, SBS) and including Floyd Vincent, Amanda Easton (Richard Clapton), Rex Goh (Air Supply), Tim Wedde (The Mockers), Steve Bull (Icehouse), Sarina Jennings (James Morrison), Lloyd Gyi (The Atlantics) and Nick Meredith (Matt Finish). Off the back of a slew of sold-out shows across Sydney, including an audience of 6000 across three nights at the Taronga Zoo Twilight Series, this Tribute to Woodstock will take you back to the defining event of a generation.

The Beatnix
Saturday, 31 August 2019
It was February 1980, 10 months before the untimely death of John Lennon, that Australia and possibly the worlds, first tribute show THE BEATNIX was conceived and produced by Tony Dean - founding member and now owner/manager. Coming from a Show Band background, popular in the 1970s and touring Australia wide, Tony was used to playing covers including Beatles, Doobie Brothers, Beach Boys, Hollies, Bee Gees, & Eagles, all great harmony groups, plus songs directly from the top twenty hit parade but then Punk came along and it was out of the question to play that style of music. It was suggested we play more Beatles music, everybody loves The Beatles. From that simple suggestion Tony thought lets play only Beatles songs, hence the first tribute show was conceived. Originally put together for a four week season in Perth, Western Australia, the shows proved so popular that after 18 months it was decided to make the move to Sydney where the show is now based and is available to travel worldwide. The Beatnix Show includes fully authentic musical instruments identical to those used by The Beatles.

West Coast Swing (WCS) is an ultra-smooth social swing dance, originating in California, USA. It is characterised by it’s sense of fun, rhythmic footwork, freedom to improvise for both leaders and followers, and it’s beautiful smooth elastic look and feel. It captures a great range of music, including, RnB, Blues, Soul, Soft Rock, and Pop.
West Coast development is being driven by regular visits from numerous visiting professional US champions inspiring growing pockets of dancers nationwide.
It is for many, a natural progression from Modern Jive, for those who want to progress their general dance technique and musicality.
Now is the best time to get involved in the growth of this beautiful dance style.
WCS offers a lifetime of challenge and social fun.
We look forward to seeing you on the floor.

Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen
Thursday, 10 October 2019
Jon Cleary is one of music’s great anomalies. A Kent raised Englishman turned certified New Orleans music legend after gracefully inhabiting the Crescent City and everything it has to offer over the course of 30 plus years. A Grammy award winning, global touring and studio force, who has graced stages, shared rooms and gained respect from everyone from Allen Toussaint to Tom Jones, Dr. John to Bonnie Raitt, Fats Domino to Eric Clapton, Taj Mahal to BB King, even Brian May to D’Angelo. Jon Cleary quite simply embodies the sound of New Orleans, and throughout the second half of 2019, he takes that experience to stages across the globe on his massive Dyna-Mite World Tour, bolstered by the presence of his long time band, The Absolute Monster Gentlemen.
After another incredible turn at the famed New Orleans Jazz Fest in April, fans in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia will now have the chance to witness Jon and his crew take to some of the most famed venue and festival stages on the planet across this remarkable 60 date journey, featuring an eight show run at London’s famed Ronnie Scott’s, a string of European dates with longtime friend and jazz legend John Scofield and an expedition to Havana to explore the roots of Cuban music, art and culture.
Tickets for Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen’s Dyna-Mite World Tour are on sale now at www.joncleary.com
“Cleary can be an absolute monster on his own, but Cleary’s full combo R&B is as broad, deep and roiling as the Mississippi River, the combined swinging product of local keyboard tradition, Cleary’s vocal-songwriting flair for moody Seventies soul and the spunky-Meters roll of his Gentlemen” David Fricke, Rolling Stone

Wolfmother confirmed to headline a HUGE 2019 Scene & Heard Festival
After a massive 2018, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Scene & Heard couldn’t get any bigger, right?
Well, you’d be wrong because the lineup for the 2019 festival, which kicks off at Wickham Park on Sunday 10 November, has dropped overnight and it’s a doozy!
Leading the charge this year are Aussie heavy rockers Wolfmother who are fresh from a massive Splendour In The Grass gig and an international tour.
Amazing hitmaker Alex Lloyd will also be marking a milestone at this year’s festival – the 20th anniversary of his platinum-selling debut album Black The Sun – a record Alex will perform in full on the Scene & Heard stage.
The treats just keep coming, too with the 2019 bill rounded out by rockers Eskimo Joe and Even, crowd favourites Sneaky Sound System and the glorious indie power pop of Jebediah and Magic Dirt.
Wow!
To put the icing on the cake, Newcastle will also host the “Don’t Come Monday Stage” – a party zone designed to evoke only the best memories of the boiler room.
Championed this year by The Potbelleez DJ’s, the stage will feature Andy Murphy and John Course.
Scene & Heard is more than a festival. It’s about creating a connection to a time. A time before people cared about ‘likes’, and festival moments weren’t Instagram opportunities but collective memories.
Those wanting to create new memories and relive the old ones can head here to register for the pre-sale.
Members pre-sale begins Tuesday 11 June from 9am.
General public tickets are on sale Wednesday 12 June from 9am

FUKUSHIMA DEATH FISH
Fukushima Death Fish are a Newcastle-based quintet, specialising in what they lovingly refer to as ‘gamma-roasted, avo-toasted apocalyptic jams’. Their sound & message is one of a world in decay - of opulence, waste & rampant consumerism. Fukushima Death Fish make no secret of their disdain for common ignorance, however, their attitude hints at an optimism that we can turn (what is at times) this frightening ship around & live in a more sustainable, harmonious way with Mother Earth, without compromising on NOISE. Fukushima Death Fish’s music is a compelling blend of jazz, rock, funk & doom with a penchant for unexpected twists, turns & textures. Progressive & punchy, oriental lunchy ~ this is a band unlike any you’ve heard before. From desolate, desert soundscapes to ripping, roadrunner riffs; from wonky caterwauling to poignant, poetic prose; Fukushima Death Fish is the renaissance band for the 21st century.
Active since: February, 2018
Genre/s: gamma-roasted, avo-toasted, post-apocalyptic, progressive, Jazz, Alt Pysch Rock, alternative rock, math rock, Metal, progressive rock, Psychedelic
Sounds like: Connan Mockasin, Radiohead, DEVO, Tame Impala, Opeth, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Gary Numan, Dead Kennedys, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, The Flaming Lips, Rage against the machine, Primus
