With one foot firmly planted in the rich history of Swing Era America and the other Lindy-Hopping into the now, the Basement Big Band are Sydney's very own 14 piece dance orchestra lead by Justin Fermino and installed in the city's oldest live music venue. With a nod to Harlem's Cotton Club or New Orleans' Preservation Hall, The Basement welcomes back its very own resident (pretty) big band and these guys are pretty hot. Not to mention just plain pretty. Delivering their fiery brand of swinging riffs and infectious dance rhythms and marrying original compositions with classic tunes from the roaring 20's and 30's, they are a must see for lovers of swing music, and are irresistibly danceable.

"ALL HAIL" CHUCK BERRY - A TRIBUTE TO THE KING OF ROCK & ROLL
7:30pm, Fri 15 September
Chuck Berry took the blues, blended it with country music, and attached lyrics that perfectly captured the trials and tribulations of growing up in the USA during the 1950’s. His stunning sound was a major influence on The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and his potent musical mixture had an enormous effect on 20th Century popular music, continuing to this very day. Expect also to see a dance floor reeling' and rocking'! Apart from the fabulous music the band entertains with brief anecdotes and insights into Chuck Berry "The Man", together with fascinating back stories to the songs and history of rock and roll.

Sydney's new generation of BeBoppers will bring to you the classic music of Charlie Parker in a birthday celebration that pays tribute to the master saxophonist and genius mind, who changed JAZZ music forever.
Charlie Parker - 'Bird', innovated a whole new approach to the way jazz music was played, not only on the Saxophone, but all jazz instruments. His approach to improvisation provided 'freedom' from the pop culture of swing music as Bird represented musicians for the first time as intellectual artists rather than entertainers.
An all star Bebop Quintet ft Richard Booth on Alto Sax, Eamon Dilworth (Trumpet), Tim Bruer (Piano), Dave Quinn (Double Bass) and Philip Lombardo (Drums) playing all of your favourite BIRD compositions and collaborations - including 'Billies Bounce,' 'Ornithology,' 'Scrapple from the Apple' and more.

2017 marks 30 years since Mark Lizotte (aka Diesel) literally stepped off the bus after making the Nullarbor crossing from Perth with his band Johnny Diesel And the Injectors, a “hobby” band made up of remnants of an imploded previous band.
Arriving with just $95 between them meant that 9 shows a week ensued for many months. By '88, after playing everywhere and supporting everyone (including a fortuitous slot with Jimmy Barnes on his Freight Train Heart tour) they were poised to impact with their debut eponymously titled album.
Impact they did, winning ARIA's for Best New Talent and Highest Selling Album. The very same album went on to become the highest selling Australian debut album of all time.
So, what better way to celebrate than with a night that combines a 25th Anniversary commemoration of Diesel's breakthrough #1 solo album "Hepfidelity", with hits from a 30 year career to date.
Hepfidelity - Through The X-ray will see Diesel retracing tracks from the album that established him as a solo artist and musical traveller.
Diesel Rewound is where we get to 'rewind' through the hits of a 15-album career, that has produced 35+ singles.
So "get on the bus" and celebrate Diesel's 30 year thang

Helena Kitley w/ Vortex | 8pm Free Entry
Jazz, Soul, Neo Soul, Acid Jazz, Funk – Helena Kitley has been around the Newcastle music scene for a good long while, popping up in various musical incarnations since 1999. Kitley was writing music from a young age, growing up in Coonabarabran, and started performing her originals after moving to Newcastle in her 20s. As a performer, Kitley has worked as a solo artist, while also featuring in, and in some cases at the helm of, a range of group projects. Kitley’s most recent group endeavours include Steely Divas, a 10-piece band performing the work of Steely Dan, with an all-female vocal section and Glam Slam, an incredibly-dressed glam rock cover band, fronted by Kitley’s alter ego Kitty Kozmik.
Influenced by artists ranging from Donny Hathaway to Prince to Erykah Badu, Kitley’s sound has an incredibly jazzy vibe to it, making one feel like leaving the work day behind to sit in a bar full of dark corners with a glass of brandy. In September 2016 Helena released her debut album The Temporal Lope. A ‘bounding stride’ over the length of Kitley’s career so far, the album is a collection of the work that she has written over the years, recorded with some of the crème de la crème of Newcastle musicians.
Funk/ Jazz/ Disco/ Alternative Rock/ Reggae/ Pop – Vortex bring you a mix of funky, soul, rock and slinky good vibe tunes. The best from the 70’s, 80’s 90’s and now. Perfect for any function or event to get your groove thing on.

Chase The Sun – Ain’t No Love Tour
Join the Australian Australian heavyweight champions of Blues-rock shred Chase The Sun as they tear up the east coast on their ‘Ain’t No Love’ single launch tour. Ain’t No Love is the second single release from the band’s long-awaited third album, and smashes along in double time before settling into the southern flavoured funk that Chase The Sun do better than most.
Celebrating 10 years together in 2017, Chase The Sun established themselves from the get go as crowd favourites at festivals all over the country, and have taken their loud guitar blues, blazing hard funk and a cranking 70’s southern rock feel around the world. Chase The Sun features the powerhouse delivery and soul-tinged song writing of guitarist Jan Rynsaardt combined with elements of acoustic blues, stoner rock Psychedelia and Stevie Ray Vaughn boogie – this three-piece crank out their own take on a classic sound.

Fiona Boyes Band - $15 + Booking Fee
Country – Fiona Boyes, an Australian blues guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, has been recording and performing for more than 25 years, building a career that has taken her to major festivals and stages around the world.  A veteran recording artist with 13 releases, Australia’s first lady of the Blues has been honoured with 7 USA Blues Music Award nominations in 5 different categories over the years, including 2 nominations in the 2016 USA Blues Music Awards – ‘Acoustic Artist of the Year’ and ‘Acoustic Album of the Year’ – for her latest release ‘Professin’ the Blues’.   She’s also received more than 30 Australian music awards, spanning the blues, folk, jazz and Americana scenes. Fiona’s immersion in the wide musical and historical traditions that make up the Blues and her deep love of the art-form itself lends conviction and authenticity to her playing and song writing.
Fiona began her career as a Blues artist when she won an Australian made Maton guitar in a local coffee shop talent show.  During the early years she honed her skills with all female band, The Mojos, who went on to become one of Australia’s premier blues acts, with 5 recordings to their credit.  In 2000 Fiona released her debut solo recording, which won Australian Blues Album, Female Artist, and Song of the Year awards.  Her international career took off in 2003 when she won the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, the first woman and first non-American to be so honoured.  Since then she has released numerous award winning albums and maintained a busy international touring schedule.
Equally at home on acoustic or electric guitars, her repertoire is like a Blues travelogue. Listen to her play and you’ll hear pre-war Delta slide, wailing laments, single chord Mississippi Hills grooves, intricate and beautiful finger picking, rollicking New Orleans barrelhouse, greasy Memphis soul, driving classic Chicago sounds, the country stylings of Texas Swing, and the uptown sounds of the West Coast.  On her latest release – ‘Professin’ the Blues’ – Fiona digs deep into her love of acoustic blues guitar and songwriting: the roots of the Blues.  As her friend and mentor, the late, great Hubert Sumlin said. ‘She’s got it!  I’ve played with all of them – and she’s got it!’
Constantly touring, Fiona divides her time between Australia, Nth America and Europe. Her home-away-from-home is Portland, Oregon, as she follows the festival seasons in both hemispheres. When she is back in Australia, Fiona lives on the Clarence River in northern NSW, with her husband Steve (aka The Preacher), a social activist and Anglican priest, and between them they share the joys of five children and eight grandchildren.

Wille and the Bandits w/ Claude Hay - $14 + Booking Fee
Rock/ Roots – Having toured their unique brand of roots rock with the likes of Deep Purple, Joe Bonamassa, The John Butler Trio and Status Quo Wille and the Bandits are now proudly touring their brand new, critically acclaimed album ‘Breakfree’.
The band are famous for creating an astonishingly huge sound, incorporating eclectic grooves from World music to Heavy Rock, using bizarre instrumentation such as Tongue Drum, Djembe, Lap steel guitar and Double bass they push the boundaries of what is expected of a modern three piece.
Although difficult to pigeon hole, Wille and the Bandits are taking roots rock music to a new level.
Wille and the Bandits are renowned for their diverse song writing and often likened to the greats of the 70’s such as Led Zeppelin, Santana and Pink Floyd, this comparison, although bold, only scrapes the surface of the Bands influences and sound.
Wille and the Bandits are on a journey which has so far been miraculous. All achieved through hard work and a true passion for making music. Playing over 200 shows a year these guys are really tight. So please do not miss the opportunity to see one of the most impressive live acts of this generation.
